Solar Project Engineer – Utility Scale

Role: Sunpin Solar Development is a solar investment and development company that focuses on the acquisition, development, and financing of solar photovoltaic projects throughout North America. The Solar Project Engineer works to achieve portfolio and financial growth for Sunpin Solar Development by coordinating the technical, cost estimation, permitting and RFP response process related to the development of PV solar projects. Sunpin focuses on projects within a 3-100 MW capacity range.

The Solar Project Engineer is critical to the project development process and requires a strong combination of technical, financial, regulatory, and business sense. The Solar Project Engineer supports the Project Developers in the development of greenfield, brownfield, or acquired projects through the following:

  • Evaluation of the viability of a project or project site
  • Research related to site specific interconnection, regulatory or permitting requirements
  • Development of initial solar field scope, scale and design
  • Optimization and documentation of solar field design utilizing PVsyst and CAD software
  • Development of project budget
  • Contract preparation and management for subcontractors
  • Preparation of RFP response documents

The Solar Project Engineer must work seamlessly with other’s tasked to propose project site acquisition or divestiture, project development, PPA origination, project buyer origination, and internal financial analysis. The role requires the design and optimization of financial models and pro formas for complex, structured, physical and/or financial settled transactions, including potentially illiquid or non-traded pricing nodes.

The Solar Project Engineer works with mid and senior level management, marketing, finance and technical staff. Strategic planning is a key part of this job description, as the role will be critical to developing the pipeline of new business coming in to the company. This requires a thorough knowledge of the market, the solutions/services the company can provide, a deep understanding of each customer’s specific needs, an awareness of the company’s competitors, and strong quantitative knowledge and discipline.

Experience

Experience in the US Electricity Market, Solar Field Design, Project Management, Project Cost Estimation, Project Valuation, RFP Response Preparation.

Other Skills and Qualifications

Electrical, Civil engineering or equivalent Degree Required. Three years of professional design experience required. Electricity Market Knowledge, Generation and Transmission Knowledge, Interconnection Experience, Solar Field Design, PVsyst Modeling, CAD Software, IRR Analysis, Schedule Forecasting, Database Management, Time Management, Decision Making While Under Pressure, Presentation Skills, Research, Writing, Closing Skills, Identification of Customer Needs and Challenges, Professionalism, Excel including Macro Development, and Microsoft Office.
